Scale

Scale (Red, after Darren Wilson), Scale (Yellow, after Darren Wilson)
Framed Archival Pigment prints, 20 x 32 in., 2015.

The two prints are a response to the photographic images released of former Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson’s injuries, used as a justification for his shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri on August 9, 2014.

In these images I recreated the position of the evidentiary ‘guide’ hand holding the forensic scale. I then sampled the colors of the walls shown in the photographs, creating a color field, and omitting the discursive and evidentiary object. In doing so, we are left with a scale without an object, objectivity lingering on a field of color, and photographs begetting photographs in a vertiginous loop of displacement.
